Working with great people on a significant project that will impact thousands of young people is always a gratifying experience. The opening of St Kevin’s college new synthetic sports ground in June was a reflection of how the 5.5 hectares site in Glen Iris, the former brickworks site, has now become home to the largest privately owned sporting facility in Australasia.

Headmaster Steve Russell and his management team worked with Dalton Consulting Engineers (DCE) to create a design and engineering feat where 40,000 cubic metres of imported fill were used to fill and create one homogenous layer sub-base, on which the new synthetic could be installed.

Completed within a 16-month construction timeframe, DCE appointed construction company ‘2Construct Complete Construction Solutions’ to manage the project and in turn they appointed and worked with Abel Sports to supply and install a comprehensive range of sporting equipment, including Soccer Goal Posts, AFL Goal Posts, Hockey Goals, Tennis nets, Barrier nets and coaches boxes.

The result is an outstanding facility that sets the pace and tone for others to follow. With an emerging desire to have effective, safe and efficient sporting grounds Abel are delighted to work as part of a skilled development team in the building of facilities to meet the standards expected of sporting facilities.
